John Henry Twachtman – Snow Scene

The temperature is falling here in Germany and autumn does its best to prepare us for a nice winter. My body is generally very pleased with the warm seasons, but my mind is hungry for the cold times.

I love the aesthetics of the winter.

I really like to see behind the surface, especially with trees. Seeing their crooked trunks – the bones – standing alone in white landscapes is simply an amazing sight.

The limited colour palette but high contrasts of the winter are something I admire highly. too. Sometimes the summer doesn’t look well composed, the colours are all to bright and there are too much of them. The winter has much more harmony to me.

These are the things that I tell myself to prepare for the time when the winter is coming (and I’m freezing on the way to the studio).
